* How brands, agencies, media, publishers, and entrepreneurs face the challenges and capitalize the opportunities
* Specifically, we may touch upon topics such as:

- Beauty related social games on mobile and Facebook platforms
- What’s the social commerce playing field in beauty
- Will independent brands that capture audience through social media be competing ably with big established brands?
- How does Facebook Social Graph impact sharing experiences in beauty? Is it a threat or benefit?
- How does real time search impact beauty in discovery and purchase?
- How do location-based search and geo-targeted services impact how consumers interact with retailers and brands?

We are very excited that Beauty 2.0 is a new high growth field and more innovations are created in the New York area. This panel brings in perspectives from publisher, agency, web startup, and brand, and will sure be an insightful and exciting discussion.


Welcome anyone interested in the beauty industry - media, brands, retailers, agencies, startups, bloggers, and broadly, anyone who’s interested in social commerce, social media, social game, social graph, real time search, web 2.0, technolgy, entrepreneurship, innovation, startup, and like to connect with other beauty-istas and technologists!


Panelist Bios:


Deanne Hess

Director, RealBeauty.com, Hearst Digital Media

Deanne Hess was named Director of RealBeauty.com in October 2009 and was previously the Senior Web Editor for CosmoGirl.com, both at Hearst Corporation. She has been working in the web space for over twelve years. After attending George Mason University where she received her Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology and Art studio, she began designing and creating web pages, portals and user-targeted content for women in addition to reporting on fashion and beauty trends, and started her own personal shopping/stylist business early on in her career. Deanne helped launch AOL RED (the teen portal for America Online) and was integral in the portal’s relaunch several years later. She managed all the teen-girl content for AOL, including the creation of over 5 online fashion shows which received millions of streams, hundreds of articles, a highly-trafficked blog and numerous other videos and content in addition to her technical capabilities and responsibilities. She also lead the web operations for Blackboard Inc, where she maintained all client-facing sites and content, directed a site relaunch and oversaw the content migration from a recently acquired company. Deanne, in her spare time, has been a painter for more than 25 years and has won several awards and recognition for her artwork. She and her Labrador retriever currently reside in Hoboken.



Tina Hedges

Co-President, TWIST new.brand.venture

Tina, known as a marketing innovator and leading authority on global trends in the consumer marketplace, is a strategic thinker, brand builder and product expert. Tina’s worldwide career includes executive and senior management roles at L’Oreal (Corporate),The Estee Lauder Companies, Halston/Borghese and LVMH, working domestically and overseas on brands such as Maybelline, Estee Lauder, Parfums Christian Dior, Kiehl’s and numerous other brands within the L’Oreal portfolio. As chief marketing officer of BOBCAT BEAUTY and co-president of TWIST, she continually delivers on breakthrough creative, product, promotional or marketing concepts to ignite consumer demand and further the company’s client advisory or brand partnership endeavors. Tina also serves on the advisory board of GCI (Global Cosmetics Industry) magazine and is an active member of Cosmetic Executive Women. She is a successful entrepreneur & lecturer, as well as advisor to other start-ups, businesses, retailers and investors.



Karen Robinovitz

Founder of Purple Lab

Karen has been a seasoned journalist, writing about beauty, fashion, style, celebrities, entertaining, home design, dating/relationships/sex, travel, and lifestyles of the rich and fabulous, for over a decade. In addition to having been a Contributing Editor at Marie Claire Magazine and Elle Magazine, she has penned high profile pieces for Harper’s Bazaar, the New York Times Styles section, the New York Post, Glamour, and In Style, Details, New York Magazine, and countless blogs. She’s the author of “How to become FAMOUS in two weeks or less” (Ballantine) and “The Fashionista Files: Adventures in four-inch heels and faux pas” (Ballantine). She has created licensing deals and fashion partnerships for Warner Brothers; online marketing campaigns for LVMH, Estee Lauder brands, L’Oreal brands, Saks Fifth Avenue, Coach, Alberto Culver brands, Diane von Furstenberg, and Procter & Gamble; as well as trend-forecasting reports and presentations for Givaudan, the foremost global luxury fragrance house. She’s also a regular on VH-1’s cult-hit, “The Fabulous Life,” and is often seen on E!, MTV, the Style Network, CNN, The Tyra Banks Show, Good Day New York, ABC News, Fox News, CNN, and morning shows across the country. Plus, she starred in and co-produced a pilot for a reality show for BRAVO. In May of 2009, she launched Purple Lab, an innovative brand about double duty beauty that mixes science forward technology and a dose of playful fun. Using social media to build awareness, Robinovitz cut through the clutter of a crowded space with her out of the box marketing initiatives that ultimately lead her to HSN, where she sells her products every other month.


Rahul Mehendale

Co-Founder and CEO, mySkin.com

Before becoming co-founder and CEO of mySkin.com, an innovative social platform and personalized recommendation engine for skincare, Rahul founded and worked as President of Pace Analytics, which offered low-cost, high quality market research services. He was a Corporate Strategy Manager at Deloitte Consulting, where he was one of the founding team members of the Innovation Strategy practice. His clients included one of the world’s largest medical products manufacturers and a leading women’s beauty products manufacturer. He also led a team that identified a $3 billion opportunity in personalized online advertising and community development. He is a graduate of Harvard Business School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.



Holly Chen

Director, mySkin.com

Holly leads mySkin.com’s strategy, product management, marketing, business development, and operations. Before mySkin, she was an innovation strategy and growth strategy consultant at Deloitte Consulting, where she spearheaded creating a $750 million growth plan and global product launch in 30 countries. She worked at the United Nations in Geneva, A.T. Kearney, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and speak fluent Chinese and Italian. She’s the founder and organizer of Beauty 2.0 Meetup, a social community dedicated to beauty in the web 2.0 era. She has a Master’s degree in European Studies with concentration in International Business and Finance from the George Washington University.
